Academic Blogging: The Beginning

My blogging journey began in the middle of writing a paper for another class. I became bored in writing about the different views that the media takes on an issue so I decided to take a break. However, instead of watching TV, or going outside, or grabbing a snack, I decided to start my blog.

I first needed to pick a blogging service, and I quickly found out that there are many to choose from. However, as our course outline stated, I found myself "in bed" with Google. There is always something that draws me to Google products. Their technology is always simple to use, they use very modern and clean looking designs, and with a revenue of almost sixteen billion dollars (www.investor.google.com), they must be doing something right. Then i found out something very interesting, i already have a Blogger account! It seems that I had once signed up for Blogger, but never started a blog and forgot i had an account.

Now i am here, writing my first blog. To be quite honest, I thought I’d have trouble finding something to write about however, I’m already at 187 words! I really like the idea of this blog. Not only is it a great place for me to rant, but over the next few weeks I’ll begin to write down what I have learned in class and what i am reading. That makes it an awesome tool when studying for my exam!

For everyone who is out there in cyberspace reading this blog, I hope you enjoy it. However, I realize that some of the only people who will understand what i write in the coming weeks will be my professor and classmates. And now.... back to that paper i was writing.

(To anyone who's reading this, please give your comments. I'd love to hear from you!)

interesting that you're blogging even when you're not blogging (i.e., having a blog but deferring to write until now). i like that you discuss going without television or fresh air or getting a snack -- and blogging instead. one question you might want to think about is how academic blogging might change your everyday media practices. i like that you're already thinking about your relationship with google, but i wonder if your feelings will change once we discuss media ownership/conglomeration....

keep writing,
i.

I'm happy to see that you already seem to be thinking about the relationship between media and audience. You've written about yourself as a reader and interpreter of media (i.e., your experience writing a paper about media), and also about the readers of your own blog (how well you think your blog readers will understand what you are writing about, depending on their familiarity with the class and the assignment). How does your new role as a blogger affect what you think about your own audience, and about yourself as an audience of other media?
